When the City of New Smyrna Beach decided to demolish its 50-year-old civic center, officials knew they wanted the new Brannon Civic Center to be an impressive space that could accommodate many types of community events. But designing a space that was energy efficient was also essential.
Window Interiors delivered.
The center is a single-story, 13,900-square-foot space. It features a grand ballroom and large windows designed to maximize natural light and views of the Indian River.
Window Interiors installed MechoSystems motorized shades. The shades used ThermoVeil fabric, which blocks the glare of the sun while still allowing people inside to see out. In addition, Window Interiors used a WhisperShade IQ2 motor, so the shades can be deployed quietly during any event.
Finally, Window Interiors installed a SunDialer system with sensors placed on the roof. The system monitors real-time weather conditions, automatically lowering the shades when the sun is shining directly on the windows and raising them when the sun is not.
The results are that guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery that makes the area special, while the City saves on energy costs.
