Interior Specialties selected to work on new FPL office

Serving more than 11 million residents, Florida Power & Light (FPL) knows a thing or two about electricity. But as Floridians know, too much natural light in the Sunshine State can be a big energy draw to keep the air conditioners running efficiently.

Interior Specialties, Inc., is making sure that won’t be a problem at FPL’s new office building in Palm Beach County. ISI, a proven leader in complex automated shading projects and Division 10 specialties, has been selected as a subcontractor on the job, providing a complex window shading system and select Division 10 specialty items.

“We love these types of projects,” said Bob Robinson, ISI president. “These projects provide us an opportunity to demonstrate what we do best with a general contractor who relies on quality subcontractors and an owner who understands and appreciates the value of this type of shading system as a long-term investment.”

Construction is currently underway on the 270,000-square-foot, six-story office building located near I-95 and PGA Boulevard. The building, which also includes a three-story parking structure, is set to house 1,000 employees and be a symbol of innovation. The building will be designed to withstand severe weather and will incorporate sustainability.

Robinson said that ties in well with the automated shading package selected for the building, which will automatically raise and lower depending on the amount of sunlight coming in. These types of shading solutions help maintain employee comfort as well as save money on energy costs.

ISI’s work will begin immediately. The general contractor on the project is Weitz.
